How BridgeDummy works

Most of BridgeDummy is puzzles. You sit South and choose one call or one opening lead. The hidden hands are then dealt at least 1,000 times in ways that fit the auction, every possible answer is solved double dummy over those deals, and yours gets one to five stars. Each puzzle comes in a matchpoint or an IMP version. Afterwards you see the best answer, some sample deals, how other players voted and a discussion thread for that puzzle.

Around the puzzles there is a Daily Challenge of 20 puzzles, a weekly league in five tiers, Puzzle Rush and one-on-one challenges with an ELO rating. In the Bidding Room you bid random deals with EPBot robots in five systems (2/1 Game Force, SAYC, Acol, Precision and Polish Club), on your own, with your partner eight boards at a time, or as two pairs against each other. There are also unrated live tables you set up with friends, a forum, a suit combination trainer, a free double dummy analyzer, free calculators and a MiniBridge course of 10 lessons for new players.

BridgeDummy is made by Nir Khutorsky, a software engineer and a member of the Israel Open team, and runs on the web and in apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Most activities cost diamonds. A puzzle costs 1, the Daily Challenge 10, a simulation 15 and the weekly league 30.

Where each one is ahead

For opening leads, BridgeTricks grades each card over 4,000 double dummy layouts that fit the auction, at IMPs and matchpoints, in a daily set, practice, survival, rush and duels. BridgeDummy's curated lead puzzles use at least 1,000 layouts and its Lead Gym 50 per deal, and its solo Bidding Room scores each auction over 20. In the Bridge Lab you can simulate 1,000 to 20,000 deals with constraints on all four hands and compare up to five contracts, and the generator saves the deals as PBN or LIN files. A BridgeDummy simulation stops at 1,000 deals within a 40-second budget and keeps your hand fixed in South. Its newer guide allows up to four contracts, an older one as many as you like, and its site shows no way to export deals.

Some BridgeTricks tools have no match there. The Bidding Architect holds a whole system, shared with your partner on Pro or Master, with saved versions, PDF export and flashcards drawn from your own bids, and the card editor fills WBF, ACBL and EBU 20B convention cards. The double dummy solver is free with manual entry and no account, and for 2 credits can also read a photo of a hand diagram or your voice. BridgeDummy's analyzer takes a pasted PBN deal or clicked cards. For suit play there are duels with a rating for each format and a 64-player knockout cup, whose next registration is paused. New players get 26 free lessons and about 88 guides without an account, while BridgeDummy has a MiniBridge course of 10 lessons and says it has no beginner curriculum yet.

The prices work differently too. BridgeTricks does not charge per puzzle. Pro is $7 a month or $60 a year and Master $12 a month or $99 a year, the same amounts in euros, and a free account gets the Dailies and duels without limit. BridgeDummy's free tier is 40 diamonds a month, which buys 40 puzzles or 4 Daily Challenges, and its paid plans cost $4.99, $9.99 and $13.99 a month on the web and more in the iOS app. Its own pages disagree on whether Premium is unlimited or 10,000 diamonds.

BridgeDummy is ahead in other places. You can play casual live bridge at a table with friends, bid with your partner in turns or as two pairs against each other, climb a weekly league and talk on a forum, and BridgeTricks has none of these. You can also bid against EPBot robots in five systems and solve scored bidding puzzles. BridgeTricks drills each convention against the standard answer and builds flashcards from your own system, with no robot to bid against. BridgeDummy has a bigger bank of curated puzzles (its pages give 5,000 and 14,000), more contests around them such as the 20-puzzle Daily Challenge and Puzzle Rush, and a full app on Android, while the BridgeTricks apps carry only the double dummy solver today.

BridgeDummy's founder has also written a comparison with BridgeTricks, which says its facts are as of August 2026. It says that BridgeTricks has no opening lead trainer, no IMP scoring, no scored bidding exercises and no friend challenges. BridgeTricks now has the Lead Trainer, launched in October 2026 and graded at IMPs and matchpoints, rated duels on suit and lead problems that you can play against friends, and the 100-hand bidding drills.

Which one to choose

Pick BridgeTricks if

  • you want each opening lead graded over 4,000 layouts, at IMPs and matchpoints
  • you and your partner want to write down your system, share it and drill it
  • you run simulations of more than 1,000 deals, or need deal files in PBN or LIN
  • you want plans with no cost per puzzle, or free lessons for a new player

  • you want to play casual bridge at a table with friends
  • you want to bid with your partner, or against robots in a standard system
  • you enjoy a weekly league, a forum and many short scored puzzles

Many players can use both: BridgeDummy for its contests and its tables with friends, and BridgeTricks for lead and suit practice, larger simulations and a system of their own.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers to what readers ask most.

Is BridgeDummy free?
Partly. A free account gets 40 diamonds a month and 1 more for each daily login, and each puzzle costs 1 diamond. The calculators and articles are free. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month on the web.
Is BridgeTricks free?
The Dailies, duels, the suit and double dummy solvers, the lessons, guides and calculators are free. A free account also gets 3 practice hands a day in each trainer. Pro costs $7 a month and Master $12 a month.
Which is better for practicing opening leads?
BridgeTricks grades each lead over more layouts. The Lead Trainer uses 4,000 deals that fit the auction and shows the result at IMPs and at matchpoints, where BridgeDummy's lead puzzles use at least 1,000. BridgeDummy adds the Lead Gym, in which robots bid a random deal and you then choose a lead.
Can I play bridge with friends on BridgeTricks?
Not at a table. You can duel friends on lead and suit problems, follow them and send messages, but four people cannot play a deal together. BridgeDummy has casual tables for that.
Does BridgeDummy have a bidding system editor?
No. BridgeDummy says it has no bidding system builder, and its site shows no convention card editor. Its robots bid five standard systems, each with its own convention card.
